Moving with Confidence in the Digital World
The teaching material "Moving with Confidence in the Digital World" is designed and realised by university teachers and staff from the Media Education and Digital Learning departments of the Zurich University of Teacher Education PHZH in cooperation with the data protection officer of the Canton of Zurich.
Teaching materials are being developed for cycles 1-3 of the primary school, which focus on the protection of privacy and allow for a playful, age-appropriate teaching of the content.
PRIVACY FOR EVERY AGE
Privacy is important at any age. That is why our teaching material is based on basic knowledge that children acquire from kindergarten age onwards. While cycle 1 deals with the basic understanding of privacy and the recognition of personal data, cycles 2 and 3 focus on the media-competent use of digital tools and platforms.
SECRETS ARE ALLOWED
"Secrets are allowed" is designed to teach children aged 4-9 to recognise that it is their right to keep certain things for themselves. In doing so, they learn the basics of protecting their own and others' privacy and thus the basics of data protection.
Children can discover that rules that apply to the analogue world are also applicable in the digital world, and eventually learn to distinguish between private, public and semi-public spheres.

MY DATA, MY TRACKS
The data protection teaching material for cycle 2 deals with the traces we leave behind every day when we use the media and how we can preserve our anonymity.
Pupils are introduced to the topic in a playful way and with examples from their everyday lives. Teachers have a wide range of materials and different teaching sequences at their disposal, which they can use to adapt the lessons to the needs of their class.

CYCLE 3
The teaching material for cycle 3 is dedicated to further questions about privacy in the everyday life of young people: how do I use the smartphone and where do I leave traces, who may be interested in my private data and what happens to it?
The german release is planned for early 2024.
PRIVACY ON ALL PLATFORMS
Each edition of the teaching material is available in different formats for different use scenarios and technical requirements:

an ePUB3 e-book version that can be downloaded and read with compatible e-book apps (only cycle 1),

PRIVACY FOR EVERY EDUCATIONAL SETTING
The teaching material is designed to be used by teachers in different settings, regardless of the size of their class and the level of the pupils. Many materials can be used digitally or printed and in-depth information allows teachers to explore topics individually.
Global Privacy and Data Protection Award
In the spring of 2019 "Secrets are allowed" was published for cycle 1. The teaching material was awarded the "Global Privacy and Data Protection Award".
