About this book
Moving with Confidence in the Digital World
(German title: "Selbstbestimmt digital unterwegs") is a joint project of the Data Protection Authority of the Canton of Zurich and the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PHZH).
The ability to move confidently and critically in the digital environment is a prerequisite for a successful life in the information society. The ebook series
Moving with Confidence in the Digital World
comprises age-appropriate teaching materials aimed at providing pupils with the necessary fundamentals of data privacy. This first module, Secrets Are Allowed, provides the lesson units for cycle 1 of the project Lehrplan 21. The modules for cycles 2 and 3 are in preparation.
The references to the competencies of Lehrplan 21 are listed at the end of each lesson.
With Secrets Are Allowed, children learn why it is important to keep certain things to themselves and to respect the privacy of others. They learn that rules that apply to the analogue world can also be applied to the digital world, and they learn to distinguish between private, public and semi-public.
The instructional materials are based on the best practice guidelines of the European Union's ARCADES Project. This condenses the content on privacy and data protection relevant for educational curricula into 10 points. This module, Secrets Are Allowed, focuses on aspects for children aged 4 to 9. Pupils thus acquire fundamental knowledge on the topic of personal privacy during their entire time in primary school. The points covered in the exercises are listed at the end of each lesson.
