2 Variations to extend the exercise

The illustrations can be printed out and the situations expanded through personal examples. After the class discussion, the children form pairs. They are given the set of pictures and the assignment of sorting them either to the left (allowed) or to the right (not allowed). This generally will involve deciding on "right" or "wrong".

Another variation is to task the children (here also in pairs) with placing the photos (and sheets of paper with catchwords for their own examples) in a row from left to right, assessing how fair or unfair they find the situation in the photo or on the paper. A picture of a happy smiley can be placed to the left and one of a sad smiley to the right to help with orientation. In this exercise there are no "right" or "wrong" assessments, because it involves the children's individual judgements. One child may deem the situation on one photo to be the worst possible, whilst another may choose another photo as the worst. Here it is important to respect the differences in the children's sensitivities
