Here are Silvio and Milena. They are hanging about on the stairs, where they spend almost every break. Silvio has known Milena since they were both quite small. They both watch the two girls skipping. Loretta is the girl with the dark hair. Silvio says wistfully: "Loretta is the best at skipping. No one can do it better than she can!"
Milena, smiling a little, asks Silvio, "You reeeally like Loretta, don't you?" Silvio blushes and nods slightly. Because what she says is true. Hopefully she won't tell anyone else, because he's not sure if he wants anyone to know. Milena is the only one who knows that he has a crush on Loretta.

Julian is sitting on the bench, all alone. He is looking down at the ground. His shoulder and arm hurt so much, and his arm is all red, but he can't let anyone see. His mother tied a bandage around it, saying, “No one is to know, do you hear! It's nobody's business." She says that every time. He hasn't said anything about it to anyone yet.
Yesterday his dad hit him so hard that it made a large bruise on Julian's shoulder. And then his father pushed him so hard that he fell, and that hurt even more. Julian always wears long sleeves so that no one will see the bruises. Now Bene sees Julian sitting on the bench, and he runs over to him. Bene doesn't know what happened to Julian. Bene feels a little sorry for him because he is always so quiet, and thinks, "I'd like to ask Julian what's wrong, and why he is wearing such warm clothing on such a sunny day!" He's also noticed that Julian is almost always sad.

But now she's not sure what to do. Her mother is at the fence, calling to her. Her mother is holding up a cap. “Why?” says Mirja angrily. "I brought a cap today. I’m not a baby!" Her mother always treats her like one, though. Even the teacher said that Mirja's mother shouldn't always bring her to school, that Mirja's big enough to come by herself.
